3,000 miles to celebrate 3,000 days sober.

“I celebrated 10 years sober on December 29, 2021. To commemorate the milestone, I’m aiming to run 3,000 miles between NYC and Seattle to explore America’s addiction epidemic and boost youth mental health.

For years I was in denial about my struggles with alcohol and painkillers. Fearing the stigma, I felt isolated and alone. But as I’ve slowly opened up, I’ve realized that my struggles are far more common than I imagined.

40 million Americans — or 1 in 7 — suffer from substance or alcohol addiction. As I run across America, I want to hear and share some of their stories.

I’m passionate about using running as a platform to promote youth mental health.

In February 2019, I ran 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents (my hometown Seattle Seahawks even penned a fun race recap) but the Run Across America will be the biggest and hardest challenge I’ve ever taken on.

Beginning April 25th, I’ll run 50 miles per day from Long Island, NY to Ocean Shores, WA.

I’ll start with a foot in the Atlantic then run 3,071 miles across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington to the Pacific. I aim to finish June 28th.”

The Run Across America will be featured in 1 IN 7, a documentary directed by Sarah Schutzki and the International Documentary Association that explores America’s mental illness and addiction epidemics to explore how we can better support those in need. “We aim to spark a national dialog on how we, as families and a society, can best support addicts and boost mental health across America,” Greg says.

During the run, Greg will raise money for the Run Far Foundation to support youth mental health.

On July 17, 2022, Greg’s dreams came true, after logging 3,156 miles from the Atlantic to the Pacific he had raised $104,040 raised (and counting!) for youth mental health!
