Melbourne-based ultramarathon runner, Samantha Gash, and Nic Davidson created a virtual Relief Run in January 2020 to support people who were affected by the bushfires in Australia.
Watching the news about the fire crisis in Australia, getting worse every day, Samantha felt she needed to take action.
She has a history of using running for fundraising. She ran non-stop across Australia’s Simpson Desert in 2012 to raise money for a children’s education initiative, ran South Africa’s Freedom Trail to help women in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2014, and ran across India in 2016 in support of World Vision, an international humanitarian organization.

This virtual event enabled everybody around the world to take action and give some help to support those who have lost loved ones, their homes, and their critical needs in the face of disaster.
People could run or walk 21.1K and 5K solo or join an organized community-run, anytime and anywhere ’round the world, between January 18 and 19, 2020.

100% of the $50AUD ($34,56USD) registration fee (per entry (Individual or Team) went to the Australian Red Cross, Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
The Australian Red Cross is helping support those affected by bushfire, including by providing psychosocial support to people, supporting 21 relief centers across NSW, Victoria and South Australia, distributing food and water in Victoria, and greeting people evacuated by air and sea.
