World Wetlands Day is observed every year on February 2. It is celebrated to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet. It’s an appeal to invest financial, human and political capital to save the world’s wetlands from disappearing and to restore those we have degraded.

This day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

Wetlands are disappearing three times as fast as forests. They are home to a wide diversity of species, a solution for reducing impacts from flood disasters, fresh water store, and currently a massive aid against the carbon causing climate change.
