Phil McCarthy, with the help of his crew Dwight Dammers and Camilo Martinez, started his run from ocean to ocean on August 21, 2018, 5:03 a.m. (PDT) at San Francisco City Hall, and completed his run across the USA at New York City Hall on October 9 at 3:58 p.m. (EDT) in a total time of 49 days, 7 hours, 55 minutes. This is one of the fastest times ever across the USA on foot!

Phil aimed to break the world record for fastest run across the USA, by finishing in his home city of New York in less than 42 days, 6 1/2 hours. He had a professional crew of four getting him there, two support vehicles, all the gear, and lots of food to get him across the US. To do it right, he launched a fundraiser page to get some financial support, apart from his sponsors.
Although he didn’t break the record, it was an amazing achievement!

Phil is an elite ultramarathon runner who has run dozens of marathons and ultramarathons around the world since 1997, including many of the world’s toughest and most prestigious races. In 2018 he ran across the USA in one of the fastest times. Phil was a sprinter in high school, with an 11.2 second 100 meter best. In 1994 he moved to New York City where he became active in distance running. His first marathon was the 1997 New York Marathon, and his first ultra was the Kurt Steiner 50K in Central Park in 2002.
